Federal Polytechnic Auchi has sanctioned 27 lecturers for engaging in s-x for marks, money for marks and other unethical practices. Eleven of the affected staff were dismissed, the appointments of six were terminated, while 10 others were downgraded. Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Sanusi Jimah, who said these at the 25th Convocation ceremony of the institution, said an additional 250 staff were recruited to strengthen the capacity of the institution. Chairman, Governing Council, Olarewaju Oloyo, represented by Prince Felix Oba Okojie, said unethical conduct of staff would no longer be tolerated.

Five Nigerians, who allegedly stormed a money exchange in Sharjah and fled with Dh2.3 million, have been arrested, the police said on Sunday. According to the police, the men barged into the exchange and smashed the glass barrier between the customers and the staff, stole the money in multiple currencies and fled. Two employees at the exchange were injured as they resisted the robbers. One of them managed to notify the police. The Sharjah Police coordinated with forces from Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman to nab the suspects from four emirates within 48 hours after the robbery was committed. The incident was reported at Al Ansari Exchange in Al Tawoon area. A top police official said the suspects came to the country on visit visas on March 18. A middle-aged school teacher and mother of one allegedly killed her three-year-old son before allegedly committing suicide in the Ayobo area of Lagos. The incident happened on Saturday. Local reports show that the woman whose identity is yet to be revealed, lived a comfortable life with her son at their home on No 1, Adeniran Street, off Ferguson Osagie Road in Ayobo. Her husband is said to be based abroad...  Residents say she was financially comfortable and had no known trouble that may have led her to kill her son and then take her own life. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ruled out the conduct of fresh governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers State, ignoring those calling for such. This is as the governorship candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Biokpomabo Awara, who is backed APC elements in the state walked out of the stakeholders’ meeting organised by INEC to continue the suspended March 9 elections in the state. Speaking at the meeting, INEC National Commissioner in-charge of Bayelsa, Rivers and Edo States, May Agbamuche-Mbu, emphasised that a fresh election would not be conducted in the state. Agbamuche-Mbu, who stated that the commission would resume collation in Rivers State on April 2, 2019, said the objective of the meeting is to brief stakeholders on the activities and schedule of the collation by the electoral body. One of Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET302’s pilots told the other “pitch up, pitch-up” moments before the Boeing 737 Max jetliner crashed three weeks ago, a new report has revealed. According to The Wall Street Journal, that instruction and other information about the plane’s final moments paint a picture of a flight crew that was quickly overwhelmed. The Ethiopian Airlines jet took off from Addis Ababa on March 10 and ran into trouble almost immediately, the Journal reported. First Officer Ahmed Nur Mohammed contacted the control tower and in a crackling transmission reported a “flight control problem,” according to the newspaper, which cited people close to the ongoing investigation. The management and students of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa in Kwara State are in shock over the reported case of suicide by a student of the institution. Punch correspondent gathered that a National Diploma 1 student of the Civil Engineering Department, Ridwan Ajiboye, reportedly drank some quantity of insecticide and eventually died. Ajiboye, who was the son of a traditional title holder in Iragbiji in the Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, decided to end his life after he was allegedly embarrassed by one of his lecturers, who gave him some handouts to sell to his course mates. The Public Relations Officer, Students Union Government of the polytechnic, Olayinka Owolabi, when contacted by our correspondent on the telephone on Saturday, confirmed the incident but said nobody knew why the deceased killed himself. Ahead of May 29, 2019, handover date to newly-elected states helmsmen, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has set up teams to probe some governors accused of perpetrating acts of corruption, Sunday Punch has learnt. At least 12 states will have new governors on May 29 after the tenure of the current ones would have ended. The states that will have new chief executives include  Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Imo, Kwara, Nasarawa, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Zamfara. Of the 12 states, however, four governors have been accused of corruption. A 37-year-old woman, Mrs. Josephine, has been arrested in Lagos state for bathing her neighbour, one Mrs. Blessing Christopher, 33, with hot water for reportedly greeting her husband against her wish.
